What you will find on this site
My best replicas, complete with historical references and photos, in the Reproductions section. Or the Tutorials, to learn how to light a fire with fire striker and flint… as well as Articles and a photo Gallery of museums you (perhaps) have not visited yet!
About me
My name is Daniele Giannotti and I was born in Sassocorvaro on 29 April 1985, right next to the famous “brick tortoise”, the Rocca Ubaldinesca, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture nicknamed the “Ark of Art”.
I hold a diploma in electronics and a degree in Applied Computer Science from the University of Urbino, and since 2009 I have been working in IT as an analyst programmer. If you want to know more, here is my LinkedIn profile!
Since 2005 I have been cultivating a passion for working materials, reconstructing archaeological finds and experimenting with ancient crafts. I take part in historical events all over Italy, offering educational activities for all kinds of audiences. I have worked with schools and museums, and taken part in video shoots and photo features for national newspapers.
Agriculture in antiquity: a lesson for middle school pupils
In 2007, together with some friends who share a passion for history and archaeology, I founded a historical and cultural association called Teuta Senones Pisaurenses, which re-enacts the military and civilian life of a tribe of Senones Gauls of the 4th-3rd century BC.
My philosophy
Reconstructing an object more than two thousand years old is not just a matter of looks: it involves many other important factors, such as the materials used, the working techniques and the tools available. Researching and studying all these elements, and understanding the construction process in relation to the knowledge and skills of the time, is not mere pedantry but a necessary path to obtaining a replica that is not only visually faithful to the original, but authentic.
