Brixia. Rome and the peoples of the Po (BS)

The exhibition Roma e le genti del Po. Un incontro di culture III-I sec. a.C. is an important opportunity to reflect on the cultural climate of a special historical moment, from the 3rd to the 1st century BC, during which Cisalpine Gaul underwent a profound change through encounters, clashes and integration between peoples of different origins and cultures. The Brescia exhibition sets out to tell the story of the encounter between Rome and the local populations, with the aim of describing a reality that was not just a clash, but had many facets.
To get to know the main themes covered in the exhibition better, a series of talks is offered to everyone – especially teachers and students – with scholars and leading figures of northern Italian archaeology who were directly involved in organising the exhibition. Thanks to the voices of the experts, it will be possible to retrace the main historical stages of so-called “Romanisation” and get to know its protagonists, great politicians and military leaders; to follow the evolution of a territory that was profoundly transformed through the rational organisation of landscapes and countryside and the birth of the great cities; and to gain a deep understanding of the new social and economic dynamics of the new society. Finally, one talk is devoted to the modern digital technologies that were used to communicate all the themes covered in an exciting and engaging way.
