19th-century tinder-cord fire striker

Reconstruction of a fire striker to be paired with a box with original tinder cord

The fire striker, for which there are no “direct” sources or measurements, was made using 19th-century models as examples, and completes a small box with original tinder cord. Some 19th-century tinder-cord fire strikers incorporate a small container for holding tinder, matches or the fire striker itself. In this case it was assumed that the little box could hold a small fire striker used to light the cord.

Design drawing with measurements and rendering of the fire striker digitally inserted into the photo of the box with original tinder cord

To study the measurements as accurately as possible, a 3D reconstruction of the fire striker was made, then rendered and digitally placed inside the original box (of which I had a photo with measurements), to see what the final result would look like before going on to make it.
