Forged javelin head and butt-spike, both socketed; overall length 60 cm for the head and 35 cm for the butt-spike.
Made with reference to Gaulish finds held in the museums of Ancona and Monterenzio, it is a throwing weapon with great penetrating power, thanks to its spearhead, which may be pyramidal or leaf-shaped. It is thought that, thanks to its sharp point, the weapon had enough force to pierce enemy shields and, thanks to its long iron shank, reach the body of the unfortunate victim, wounding or killing him. Called Saunion among the Gaulish peoples, it is the forerunner of the famous Roman pilum.
