Built between 1883 and 1887 to a design by the architect Camillo Pistrucci in a restrained Neo-Renaissance style, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme began life as a Jesuit college and kept that purpose until 1960. In 1981 it was acquired by the Italian State and became one of the seats of the National Roman Museum.
